Join WCRD

If you're interested in radio, there's a department for you at WCRD! No previous radio experience is necessary and anyone is welcome to join! Students have the opportunity to get involved with many different aspects of the radio station, including:

Disc Jockey
You could have your own music, sports or talk show every week! WCRD broadcasts on 91.3 FM and online 24/7. We count listeners tuning in from across the country and, literally, across the world.

Promotions Team
Become a part of the WCRD Party Patrol! Work to plan station events, such as Battle of the Bands and Relay For Life. Create contests and giveaways for listeners to enter. Learn to run our mobile sound system, including a Mackie mixer, Legion Sound amplifier and Peavey speakers.

Music Team
Work with our music director to review CDs that we receive from bands, keep the station's library up-to-date, assist with music tracking and contribute to College Music Journal (CMJ) weekly charts.

News Team
Have a passion for news? You could write and broadcast local and national news, sports and entertainment every week on the 5:00 news hour. Learn to record and edit news briefs that play throughout the day.

Production Team
Assist our production director by producing spots (commercials) and liners that air all the time on our station. Learn to record and edit music, voices and sound effects with Cool Edit Pro. Not interested in editing? You can lend your voice to the spots, be heard on-air and build up your demo reel. We are always looking for new voice talent.

Multimedia Team
Like creating content for the web? What about taking photos or shooting and editing video? Your work could end up on wcrd.net!

Sales Team
Could you sell ice to an Eskimo? If you love sales, we'd love to have you on our team! Sell airtime to local businesses, make trades and work with Promotions to plan events. The best part: you make commission!

Sports Team
If you love sports and broadcasting, this is the department for you! Host your own weekly sports show or become a part of a sports broadcast team. Work as a play-by-play announcer, color commentator, sideline reporter or in-studio producer for Ball State's 18 collegiate sports. WCRD Sports broadcasts home and away games/matches, allowing certain broadcast teams to travel with the sports team (depending on driving distance) to cover the event.

For more information, contact the director(s) of the department(s) that interest(s) you or come to one of our all-staff meetings: the first Wednesday of each month, 10 pm in LB 125.
